Castaic Lake rose to 57 percent of capacity with water rising temps in the mid-fifties. High winds made for difficult fishing conditions, but anglers found enough calm water to report excellent striper and trout fishing. The striper bite has been hit or miss, but when anglers find the right school they have been filling the boat. Scott and Dylan Newell, of Bakersfield, reported wide open striper fishing on Monday morning followed by a tough afternoon bite. Anglers have been using cut baits, night crawlers, and blood worms for bites. Anglers also trolled spoons, Flukes, and jerkbaits on lead core line to land fish. Castaic received another trout plant on Tuesday, and fishing was wide open. Trout anglers used spoons, Get Bent Baits, and dough baits to fill stringers. The trout plant also kicked off another round of big bait fishing and catching. Bass anglers reported windy conditions while fishing in 10 to 40 feet of water. Bites came on drop shot and other finesse techniques. Spooning for beeper bass has been one of the best ways to land bigger fish.
