Water levels have been on the rise and warmer daytime temperatures could kick off an early spawn this year. For now, anglers are focused on striped bass fishing, and it has been good. On Monday and Tuesday overcast skies provided the perfect conditions for topwater anglers. Eight-inch trout imitations were the ticket to fill the boat with ten plus pound zebras. Cut baits and trolled umbrella rigs also worked well for bites. Bass anglers reported tougher conditions with drop shot, Ned rigs, and shaky heads providing the best results. Most of the bass action is still in deeper water with a slow to dead stick presentation. Catfish ate dip bait, chicken liver, and cut sardines near the marina, and trout anglers reported some biters while using Kastmasters, dough bait, and minijigs.
