Well, the vibrant leaves around Lake Sabrina are history, thanks to the cold temps that came in this past week - we were down to the low teens with the w-i-n-d chill and speaking of w-i-n-d, we had sustained w-i-n-d-s of 29mph with gusts up to 42mph. Had a few snow pellets in on Tuesday morning, the gusty w-i-n-d-s on Friday and Saturday and snow on Sunday. The snow stuck up on the DingleBerry Knob and on the higher peaks - it's a start to the winter snow pack. The sun was shining on Sunday as it snowed - thought maybe I'd see a snowbow - but, alas, I couldn't find one.

With the cooler temps, boy is fishing improving. Anglers that got out on the lake this week reported the fishing at the cliffs by the Little George Inlet was great with Salmon Eggs and NightCrawlers - in fact, their comment was "we couldn't bait our hooks fast enough". The same was going for the DingleBerry Inlet and George Inlet. Drifting the rock piles is still working with PowerBait and NightCrawlers. Trolling is picking up a bit using flashers with a NightCrawler, WoolyBugger, or Thomas Buoyants. Shore fishing with NightCrawlers, Salmon Eggs or PowerBait.

Life-long Bishop resident Gebby McMurrey along with daughters Cathy McMurrey and Dara Powell had an awesome day on the lake. It was made even better when Gebby hooked into a 3-pound rainbow. And with the other 'bows on the stringer, it looked like fish for dinner at the McMurrey home that night.

Keeping this in for another week - The deer hunters are in the area, so don't be alarmed if you see people walking around with orange caps and vests and toting a rifle. This may scare a doe or fawn out of the foliage (should would scare me) so remember - WATCH OUT FOR OUR WILD LIFE - especially in the pre-dawn and pre-dusk hours. Also, during the Fall, keep an extra eye out for the errant photographer - they'll walk right out in front of you with a tripod or set the tripod up in the middle of the road trying for that perfect picture. So keep your speeds down, especially going around the corners on the road from Camp Sabrina to Lake Sabrina or actually anywhere there's color. They'll also abandon their cars in the middle of the road. JUST WATCH OUT AND BE CAREFUL!

The only campgrounds now open in Bishop Creek Canyon are: Intake II, the Forks, Big Trees and BitterBrush - not sure about Four Jeffrey.

Looks like cool temps, but at least it look like we'll get a bit warmer going into the week. That would mean we're going from 38 degrees forecasted high for Monday in Aspendell to 54 degrees on Friday. There is a forecast of snow flurries for the evening of Wednesday, but the www.weather.gov websites for the Aspendell area is calling for a sunny Thursday and Friday. You may want to check the website if your planning on coming up next week.

* * * NEWS FLASH * * * Verizon has removed the payphone out in front of Lake Sabrina Boat Landing. Cardinal Village will be your closest option as not very many cell phone providers work in the area; Bishop Creek Lodge, Parchers Resort and Creekside RV Park are your other choices.

With the return of warmer weather the skeeters have returned, so remember the bug juice and COMMIT TO MEMORY, IF YOU PUT ON BUG JUICE, SUN SCREEN OR FOO FOO JUICE, WASH YOUR HANDS! THEN RUB THEM IN WORM GOO, TROUT ATTRACTANT OR POWERBAIT - GET THE OTHER SCENT OFF!

Also, don't forget your sunscreen and dark glasses, the glare on the water is soooo bright, they just might blind your eyeballs. PONCHOS or COATS MAY ALSO BE NEEDED - YOU NEVER KNOW!

ALWAYS PACK A JACKET! ! ! !

You all have a great week and if the stress gets too great, you all know where to come to get some relief! But, remember you don't need to be stressed to come. WE JUST WANT TO SEE YOU SOON!
