Another week of top-notch dorado catches for the Cabo anglers and sportfishing boats with mostly easy limit fishing and many releases. The fish are wide ranging in sizes from small fish in the 8-10 lb. range and on up to 40-45 lb. range with 99% of the bite taking place on the Pacific side of the peninsula from Cabo Falso to the Golden Gate Bank. The bite was good on artificial and live bait and the live bait drop-back was almost a certainty for another dorado or two and more. While the billfish and tuna counts were down considerably, don't be fooled by those numbers. The boats are focusing on the dorado catches that are close by and seemingly plentiful and paying little attention to the offshore yellowfin tuna and billfish. Some of the numbers should change this week with the beginning of the billfish tournaments and the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament being the first. Overall combined fish counts for Gaviota and Fish Cabo Fleets for 40 days, reflected 5 stripers, 1 sailfish, 2 wahoo, 2 yellowfin tuna and 322 dorado.

Cabo Climate: Good rain during the early week from "Patricia" and clearing as the week progressed to mostly sunny days with temps from 75 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Port was closed on Tuesday & Wednesday due to tropical storm "Patricia", but back to normal on Thursday. Sea temps from Golden Gate to Jaime Bank at 83 degrees and rising to 84 in toward Cabo San Lucas and then rising to 86 at the Gordo Banks.

Best Fishing Area: From Cabo Falso to the Golden Gate Bank, both inshore and out to 7-8 miles for the dorado, along with an occasional wahoo and billfish.

Best Lure/Bait: It was not too difficult to get bit on the aritificials and when followed by a drop-back bait, it was almost certainty for another dorado or more.

Live Bait Supply: Improved from the full moon the week before, mostly caballitos.

There were only 5 offshore trips this past week that spanned two days and no other trips for the remaining 5 days. There was just insufficient offshore activity allowing the boats to stay on top of the fish with consistency. Overall fish counts for the 5 boat days produced 1 blue ......
