Shifting Gears
We had quite a week of weather, it seems like mother nature flipped the switch early from summer to late fall. After the strong winds early in the week, it will be interesting to see how things develop for the weekend. Taking a look at the Terrafin
www.terrafin.com temperature chart and the loop tool that shows how the water moves, you can see a dramatic cool down on the sea surface temperature. There is still some good water that is plenty warm on the Mushroom Bank, and boats are still finding yellowfin, bluefin and yellowtail in that area. With good weather forecast over the next week, it would be a great idea to jump on a 1 1/2 day trip from San Diego for a last shot at tuna.Water apparently rolled over at the rock-pile are south of the Coronado Islands where the yellowtail bite was. H opefully that will recover. Still some yellowtail reported at Pyramid Cove- San Clemente Island, but Navy traffic has restricted entry to many spot on the island. Check for closures before you head out. Lobster hooping has been reported as very slow along the coast and Catalina Island. We will have updated reports this weekend if you are planning to head out on the water.
Last Saturday was a great tribute show to Bill Poole- if you missed it, you can listen to the show on our archives page- click here:

Long range boats have had an interesting week. Guadalupe Island unfortunately has been closed again by the Mexican Navy due to some confusing issues, but Ken Franke, President of SAC is working hard to resolve these issues and expects to have our permits back soon. Boats on 8 and 10 day trips are experiencing typical fantastic fall fishing on the ridge, rocks and banks off Magdalena Bay.
Pete will be heading to Cabo next week for the Western Outdoor News Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot tournament. You will be able to get all the results and hear the action live from Cabo next Saturday November 7.
This Saturday morning from 7am to 9am Pete Gray and Rock Cod Rick will be in the XX studio with Doug Kern from Fishermans Landing Tackle Shop.
