Hey guy RB Bass Outdoors angler Junior Akin here with a Ca Delta fishing report for Wednesday night 5/18/2022. I decided to fish the Windy Wednesday Nighter with my Dad, even though we heard the bite was hit and miss. We launched around 3 P.M. under a clear sky with the temps in the low 90’s, winds from 10-17 MPH and visibility from 3-5ft. We launched into a low/slack tide with no solid game plan in mind.
We decided to run a few of our regular spots hoping to stumble into something good. I went straight to punching while my Pops threw a Green Pumpkin Jack Hammer with a 4’ XZONE SWAMMER trailer in the bluegill color. Almost immediately Pops picked up our first fish of the night, which was a 2.5. We threw frogs, we threw whopper ploppers and many other things, to no avail, so we switched spots and found a rocky point with current and weeds and picked up another small one on a stick bait. After fixing my worm. I casted in the exact same spot and got bit again right away and to my surprise it was a spawned out 5.7lb!
Now that we were getting bit on plastics, we decided to stick with that. We moved around a little bit, flipped docs, current breaks, tules and more rock points and managed to scrape together a 5 fish bag of 16.79 lbs, which landed us in 5th place for the tournament.
It looks like summer weather is arriving with warm weather temperatures, clear sky’s and more traffic on the water. There are always going to be tough fishing days. When faced with that, go back to the basics and do what you know best and most of all… Have fun!
