The Smith River can be a great catch-and-release fishery for winter steelhead. The Smith is getting low and clear and we could use a bit of rain to get the fish moving again. Anglers looking to fish the Smith should try moving between holes as the fish aren’t likely to be moving much when the water is cold.
Steelhead in the Smith have a higher proportion of repeat spawners which can result in some larger steelhead. The Smith is not open for any salmon fishing during this season.
