The Lower Deschutes has been fishing well. Don’t forget that the river is closed from the Dam to the Northern boundary of the Warm Springs reservation until April 22. There is still lots of open water if you drive to Maupin and fish up to the locked gate. Nymphing has had the best action and stoneflies, pheasant tails, two-bits, nitro caddis and jig leeches have been some recent favorites. Swinging a sculpzilla around is a good way to find some fish in the larger class. It is wise to have a good selection of caddis in different sizes and colors as well as some BWOs incase you find yourself in the right place at the right time.
