The Little Truckee appears to be following the same downward trend as the main river and we’ve seen the flows out of Stampede stepped down over the last week with a 100 CFS drop yesterday, June 6th. Even with this recent drop +/- 700 CFS is still tough fishing on the Little Truckee with limited suitable holding water for the trout. This has put the fish in fewer areas and the handful of good pieces of slow water will have good numbers, of course this will be met with a higher concentration of anglers in these areas, so expect to be around people if you’re heading out here for the day. Please be courteous of other people when fishing out here and give them their space. We encourage anglers to move around, and share the water with others. Despite the high flows, these are still Little Truckee fish, and they are still looking for the smaller offerings, such as size 18 BWO’s, size 16 PMD’s, size 20 Midges or the occasional well presented worm. Higher flows mean that typically 4x tippet is just fine, but if it seems like the run has seen a lot of traffic on that particular day, then 5x may up your odds. As this is a tailwater, fishing remains good all day, but often the best fishing can be found during the mornings or evenings, not only because fish prefer the lower light, but because there will be fewer anglers out and about during these times.
