Howard Prairie is at 39 percent full and dropping. The lake level is currently at elevation 4,503 feet, and the toe of the ramp is 4,501 feet. After the resort ramp closes, the gravel ramp near the dam will be the primary access for small, trailered boats.
Hot weather has likely slowed trout fishing success. Anglers may want to try trolling in the old creek channel opposite the marina, or bait fishing near Buck Island or around the dam. Be cautious with catch-and-release fishing for trout as reservoir temperatures rise.
