Monsoons/heat hit Eastern Sierra Early August in 2022 and started around the 8th in 2023 and hit VL off and on since that time, and hopefully it will start to warm up again after this series of storms end sometime Monday.

It's been a very warm month to date with temps running in the high 70's and that brought moisture to the area last week which is to continued for the next 7 days as predicted, and today the 21th, it's calm and cloudy but comfortable and the mosquitoes will return to blood letting.

BAIT: Crawlers, powerbait, micetails and pinched crawlers are all getting the job done, especially Mice Tails and light green garlic powerbait.

LURES: Smaller Red/gold Buoyant, gold/red Kastmaster, anything with gold or green on it, , gold Super Duper 502, gold Mepps O, and assorted small gold lures. Lots of jigs are also doing a great job. This has been the norm for 30 days now.

FLY AND BUBBLE: Adams parachute, Green Body mosquito, olive elk hair caddis, , grey hackle yellow, Griffith's Gnat and small dark midges. Also try tentwing caddis in sizes 16. First shot on any new water is to use a searching pattern which is an Adams parachute size 16, something to put in your brain's fishing arsenal.  If the wind keeps up you will have to change up your patterns and try other flies.

FLY RODS: Again, it's the same as last week but bring your arsenal as daily temperatures fluctuate with the clouds moving in and out and also light showers to heavy rain. Try small streamers, dark and olive damsels, leeches, prince nymph, midges and emergers. Great hatches the last few days before the temperature dropped and the wind kicked up, and dark mayflies (duns). Matuka's, black crystal buggers will produce and try midges. Also some flashy buggers and leeches. Lots of different flies have been working and getting the info out of the "fly" guys is tough. Fish where you think there are NO fish, and get a surprise.

BACKCOUNTRY: Two anglers did well at Blue and Cooney using small green body mosquitoes, nothing big just quantity, also a couplel people went to Moat and said the trail is really trashed and fishing was slow, but it was very serene up there.
