The ice on the north end of Comins Lake varies between 4.5″ to 8″.  Ice in the narrows and north end of the south lake is between 9″ and 12″.  The south end of the south lake averaged 7″-8″ in areas sampled. The ice along the perimeter of the lake has become soft and may be unsafe in areas, take caution when accessing the lake.

Ice fishing continues to be slow so far this winter.  Successful anglers are catching rainbow trout in the 15″ to 18″ range, avergaing 2 pounds.  Nightcrawlers, spoons, and jigs are producing catches. Anglers pursuing northern pike will do well on hard and soft plastic baits, as well as flashy spoons and jigs. Pike catches are ranging from 18″ to 30″+. Please note that NDOW has placed radio tags in several Northern Pike.  These pike will have an orange floy tag near their dorsal fin and a small antenna (~ 7 inches long) coming from their stomach.  Please return these fish to the water for research purposes.
