Al Hurwitz and Abel Wong trolled Lake Del Valle on 4/25/24, searching mainly for Smallmouth Bass and Rainbow Trout. We were limited to a single bite around 9 AM along the western shoreline about 150 yards north of the Marina, when Abel hooked and caught this beautiful 23 inch, 6.7 pound Mt. Lassen Rainbow (see photo below). Amazing fight, well-played on light tackle, with multiple runs of the fish before it was finally netted. The Trout was caught flat lining a Jointed Husky Jerk crankbait trolled about 8 feet below the surface in a 20 foot water column. Abundant scent had been applied to the lure. Unfortunately, high winds prematurely forced us off the lake.
The lake is very full, with good water clarity, and a surface temperature of around 65 degrees.
We want to thank the entire Del Valle staff in getting us on and off the lake so efficiently. We’ll be back soon.
All the best,
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
Abel Wong, Sunnyvale
