Water Conditions: 282 cfs as of 5/16, high for this time of year, but a welcome level.
Fishing conditions and Hatches: Good-Very Good
Just to clear something up, they do not stock Rainbows in the East Walker. There are some wild fish that will reproduce, but the stockers you see are fish being flushed through the pipe out of the lake.
Water temperatures are already in the upper 50s and the flows are ideal. The water is starting to green up, especially up by the dam. Fishing was very good over the weekend but the crowds were HUGE. We're already seeing the fish in the miracle mile getting pickier and quicker to spit. The primary hatches have been Baetis and midges with some big mayflies (#10-12). Black flies and Daphnia are up by the dam. We are also starting to see the Trico emergence first thing, with the spinner fall mid-morning. As can be expected, streamer fishing has been very good, with streamers up to 6", but that will slow down soon when the fish start wising up.
