MONO COUNTY road work for this coming week.
Sonora Junction Shoulders Project – U.S. 395 Fully Reopened through Sonora Junction Shoulders Project What you need to know: U.S. 395 has reopened within the Sonora Junction Shoulders Project after crews installed two under-highway wildlife crossings, providing safe and sustainable passage for mule deer and other area wildlife. MONO COUNTY – U.S. 395 has reopened between Burcham Flat Road and
BAIT: Night crawlers, Mice Tails Pinched crawlers, Garlic Pbait, Corn and salmon peach Pbait and Mice tails Red/brown, Smores, orange/white head and pink/white were the top picks.

LURES: Always try 1/6oz Red/gold Buoyant, small Gold Kastmaster, black/yellow dots Panther Martin, gold Super Duper 502, "O" gold Mepps, silver/blue Kastmaster, and gold Kastmaster. Stay on the small size for most lures. Fish were put down from the cold snap last week, but with the DFW stocking twice put the fish closer to the surface and the bite was on.

FLY AND BUBBLE: Adams parachute, grey hackle Peacock (that's the early October color) it's a good choice, green body mosquito and Griffith's Gnat or any small dark fly. Also try fur body black ants near the bushier areas of any of the lakes, it's warm enough for them after the sun is out for a couple hours. More and more people are switching to this method which is a good idea, less stress on the resource. Consider it. Stop by and learn how. The only drawback is that it works best early and late in the day when the air is cooler and when there is a good breeze with overhead clouds. If you have never fished the lakes here, always start with an Adams parachute.

FLY RODS: Fishing has been S L O W, the fish are there but not biting. Streamers WERE working along with emergers (pheasant tail, prince nymph or a naked olive elk hair caddis). Denny Richards patterns may work, along with any damsel pattern. Hatches were sparse during the temp drop and when the temp hit over 74 degrees it picked up again. Try Olive Matuka red throat and black crystal buggers. Woolly's with a pheasant tail dropper or hare's ear dropper. The 2nd of the (four) mega moons has passed, and the fishing is slow! Get creative and study up on your bugs and their life cycles and see what flies match that particular bug. The assortment is incredible so get busy and do some reading up on the 5 bugs and their stages.

BACKCOUNTRY: Fishing has been good with most people protecting the resource using catch and released on flies and a few lures. Hatches produced some small hoppers and large black ants. Please protect the resource and release what you don't want to eat. Water level in streams are low.

NOTE: If you are yanking the hook out of the fish, DO NOT THROW IT BACK or if the trout bleeds DO NOT throw it back into the lake, it will die. If you care about the resource please be careful when releasing fish back into the water, it hurts the resource and also attracts bears! We have 3 bears which is more than enough for the area

Virginia Lakes Resort is located near the top of Conway Summit between Mono Lake and Bridgeport, CA. We have everything you need to enjoy the Eastern Sierra. Check out our WEBSITE.
