This season has been incredible so far. Way better than the last two or three years up to this date in the season. It really does not make a lot of sense because the fish that we are catching were alive and well somewhere in the lake then also, they have just shown up more this season. It’s a big lake. The bad thing about fishing reports is that it is news of days gone by. You really need to just get out there and fish. A fish of a lifetime is out there.
If you are headed out to the lake soon, and if you’re going to fish an indicator rig then hang a balanced leech or a soft hackle jig nymph on top of a two fly rig and a Midge on the bottom. Size 8-12 for the top fly and 12-16 on the bottom. Albino Winos, Copper Tops, and Red Wine Midges are working pretty well.
For the stripping flies the usual suspects are hard to beat, Foam flies like the Tadpole in White, Chartreuse, Black and Root beer and Woolys in the same colors including the Midnight Cowboy and the Martini Olive.
Fish are spread out all over the lake. There are some beaches that are more popular and usually crowded and for good reason but there really isn’t a bad place to give it a try right now. Just don’t get caught up fishing the same spot your whole trip. Move around and learn the lake.
