Bass anglers are still seeing some good action on Lake Oroville, reported Fil Torres at Oroville Outdoors. "Releasing 20 bass per day can be accomplished right now", commented Torres. "Lots of slot fish, but the average size is getting bigger as winter approaches. The winner of last weekend's Anglers Choice Tournament had over 16 pounds [for five bass], with the big fish being a 6.82 pound largemouth. Even fifteenth place had 10 pounds.
"The fish are hitting on ripbaits and tubes, and during stormy periods topwaters are working extremely well. There are a lot of fish in the south fork and middle fork."
Regarding the boat ramps, Torres tipped, "Boat launching is still OK at Bidwell, and they even recently relocated the courtesy docks. We've been getting no complaints."
Also of note are the super-abundant and aggressive coho salmon that were recently stocked in Oroville. Averaging about 10 inches in length, the cohos will grow at the rate of more than one inch per month. By the first of the year, the feisty silvers will be in the 12-inch class, but for the time being should be left alone to keep growing.
