THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

Another slow week for anglers from Cabo San Lucas that seemed to go hand-in-hand with the slow fishing throughout the area. I've been reporting for Cabo fishing for some 30 years or so and these past two weeks have been the slowest charter weeks in that span of time. I also can sense the frustration from the various boat crews, not only with the slowness for charters but also with the unusually slow and difficult fishing results for their angling customers. All-in-all, the difficult fishing still beats working and there are few individuals that are more optimistic than anglers. From the moment one leaves the dock there is always that thought that this new day will be the change with the fishing and sooner or later, that is true. However, we are sure wishin' for the sooner.

The overall fish counts for 15 combined fishing days reflected 3 stripers released, 1 dorado, 44 yellowfin tuna, 4 pargo and 44 sierra.

Cabo Climate: Partly cloudy during the early week and sunny, warm days toward the weekend with temps from 60 nights to 85 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: On the Pacific side, cooler waters were pushing against warm inshore waters with water temps at 71-72 and up against 75 at about 8 miles from the beach. This warmer water wrapped around Cabo San Lucas, extending up to the Gorda Banks and offshore to the southeast for many miles. The offshore waters out to the southeast were reasonably clean with a light off-color greenish tint to it.

Best Fishing Area: The billfish were scattered and there was no fish concentration in any location.
Best lure/Bait: Not reported
Live Bait Supply: Good bait supply of mostly caballitos.
