The Truckee remains in great shape from Lake Tahoe through Reno. This has been one of the best seasons in recent memory on the Truckee. We are experiencing some rain showers that should continue over the next couple of days that will affect the flows short term but they should be back to normal by the end of the week.

California - The upper section of the Truckee should not be affected by the rains too bad. The overnight lows have cooled the water and the fish are a lot more active. This is the time of year that you can fish all day on the river. October Caddis Pupa with a smaller dropper like a Baetis Nymph fished under an indicator has been working well. The October Caddis are just starting to show up so this pattern should be good for a few weeks at least. Burk's bottom Rollers are great imitations for the October Caddis. The Browns are getting active so streamer fishing in the early mornings and evenings is also worth a try. Flows: Town on Truckee 88 CFS, Boca Bridge 434 CFS, Farad 495 CFS.

Nevada - The River has not been stocked since August 30th . The fish are really spread out now and you have to do a little more searching to find them. The good news is just about anywhere is the right place to be. The summer tubers are gone and the water between Patagonia and the City of Reno should start to go off. The recent rains are going to affect the flows for the next couple of days so make sure to check the flows before you make a plan. Stoneflies have been working all summer but the fish are starting to key in on smaller bugs. Fall is traditionally Baetis time of year so make sure you have some olive or black colored bead head nymphs in 18 and 20. October Caddis imitations are a good fly to have on as well. Flows: Reno 457 (they were in the low 300's before the rain).
