http://www.truckeeriveroutfitters.comThe river has been fishing well all year. The water is a little lower now and much easier to wade. The fish are starting to move into the bigger slower pools for the winter. Usually the Truckee will fish well all winter as long as we do not get too much really cold weather and ice. Some of the biggest fish of the year are caught on the Truckee in the winter. Flows are; Town of Truckee 155 CFS, Boca Bridge 284 CFS, Farad 301 CFS and Reno 313 CFS.
California - The River is open to fishing all winter from the confluence of Trout Creek in Truckee down to the state line. It is all single barbless flies only until the last Friday in April next spring. It is starting to get a little cold and we have had a couple of significant snows as well. Access is the biggest problem in the winter on the California side so keep an eye on the weather. Nymphing with smaller flies in slower moving pools is a great way to start.
Nevada - The Nevada side of the River has always been open all year. The weather is not as much of an issue on the Nevada side and the fishing can be really good all winter. Warmer days can also offer some dry fly fishing with Baetis Mayflies. Our guides take anglers fishing on the Nevada side of the river on a regular basis in the winter. Some of the best fishing and biggest fish are caught before next spring's run off. Nymphing is the way to go but streamers and dry flies can also be effective
