Royal Polaris returned from an Accurate 18/15-day fly-back Saturday, February 26, 2011. Chartermaster Jack Nilsen met the boat with other passengers who elected to fly back from Cabo San Lucas.

"I don't know what else to say," Jack said at Fisherman's Landing, "but it was a great trip. I think I say that every trip, but it was, we had a great trip. We had great wahoo fishing at Hurricane Bank, and then moved to the Buffer Zone for big tuna."

"We had one amazing fish," he continued, "that took multiple outfits to catch. There were two Accurate 50 reels in the water on backups on this one. When we got them back, those same two reels were fished the rest of the trip! Frank LoPreste said it was the longest pulling fish he'd ever seen. It ended up being 267-pounds for Claude Mangot of France."

Jackpot winner Brad Hall of San Diego caught a 243-pound yellowfin, which also won him an Accurate Reel.

"It was the day's prize," Brad said of his new reel. "Jack gave out three of them on the trip. I owe a lot to the crew on this one. He bit my salami mackerel at 5:30 in the morning, and he screamed off 300 yards right away. It got tangled up on the bow with Francois Mangot's 230-pounder, which ended up being the third place fish."

"I owe it all to the Royal Polaris," he continued, "and Frank, who gave me a shot at these big fish. This was my first cow."

Brad fished a 10/0 Owner Super Mutu hook, 130-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon, 130-pound Jerry Brown Line One spectra, an Accurate 50 ATD, and a Calstar 7465 H rod.

Second place winner Gary LaCroix of Torrance caught a 238-pound tuna. Gary fished a salami on a 16/0 Mustad hook, 130-pound Seaguar Premier fluorocarbon, 130-pound Jerry Brown Hollow spectra, an Accurate 50 ATD reel, and a Seeker XXXX rod. He also caught a 228-pound tuna.

Francois Mangot, of Paris, France flew back home from Cabo and was unavailable for comment. Francois caught three over two hundred pounds on the trip. His brother, Claude caught the 267-pounder that needed two backup outfits. It was ineligible for the jackpot.

Larry Eilbot of St. Louis, caught a 264-pound tuna. He was unavailable for comment.

Dr. Pete caught a 229-pound tuna. He was unavailable for comment.

Greg Curry of Clover City caught a 214-pound yellowfin. Greg fished a salami on a 20/0 hook, 130-pound blue Izorline, 130-pound Jerry Brown Hollow spectra, an Accurate 50 W reel, and a Calstar 765 XH rod.

San Diego native Koi Marculelli caught a 211-pound tuna. Koi fished a salami on a 10/0 Owner Super Mutu hook, 130-pound Yo-Zuri fluorocarbon, 130-pound Jerry Brown Hollow spectra, a Penn 50 International reel, and a Calstar 770 H rod.

Long range veteran Bob Ramirez of Costa Mesa caught a 209-pound cow. Bob fished a salami mackerel on a 9/0 Owner Super Mutu hook, 130-pound Hi-Seas Quatro fluorocarbon, a Penn 50 International with Baker plate and modified by Cal Sheets, and a Calstar 770 H rod.

"That Hi-Seas Quatro fluorocarbon is new," Bob said. "It's made of four different colors, so they call it camouflaged. We caught several fish with it."

Nikola Didovic caught a 203-pound yellowfin.
