Kevin Osborne docked Intrepid at Pt. Loma Sportfishing June 6 after the eight-day Wahoodad/All Coast Charter with 23 anglers and Accurate pro staffer David Choate and All Coast's Chuck Melber of Mountain View aboard as chartermasters.

"We spent a day and a half at Alijos Rocks," said Choate, "and it was windy. The yellowtail fishing was good. Lots of the fish had already spawned, and we saw red crab there. At Uncle Sam Bank the fishing was good. We were busy all day long, culling the small ones out to get the big ones. We spent a day and a half at Cedros, got a few shots at good fish and catching bass, which we released.

"Then we looked for bluefin offshore. We some 60 to 80-pounders jumping but couldn't get them to bite."

Skipper Osborne said, "I feel pretty good about what we saw, and it looks like the tuna are on the way toward San Diego." Chuck Melber, moderator for All Coast, won the jackpot for a 41.4-pound yellowtail he got with a Tady 45 jig in scrambled eggs motif. He said he used 40-pound clear Izorline, 65-pound Power Pro spectra on a Trinidad 20 reel and a Calstar 700 M rod. He got that one at Cedros, he said, at first light.

Terry Farmen of Huntington Beach won second place for a 38-pound yellow he got on a spinning outfit. Paul Carlisle, 14 and a center/nose guard at Mitchell High in Colorado Springs won third place for a 35.2-pound yellowtail.
