Fishing was a little slower this week at Lake Cachuma unless you were after Carp

Trolling for trout has been on the slow side this week, with most anglers averaging 2 to 3 fish per boat. Lead core 3 to 4 colors used in combination with dodger/crawler rigs are producing the best. You can still get a bite in the Harveys area on inflated worms and PowerBait. But you need to use a light line and 5 to 6 foot leaders to be successful.

The Bass bite is slow, but a few smallies and largies are coming in on jigs and blades. Crappie picked up a bit, but still no substantial numbers as of yet. The narrows and Santa Cruz Bay have been the best locations, and mini-jigs and red worms were taking most of the slabs.

Bow fishing for carp has been very good at times, and archers reported up to 14 fish per day, with a hefty 8 lb. average. Mornings and evenings are the best times and they can be found just about anywhere in the lake.

Catfish are starting to chew a bit better, and shallow coves have been kicking out a few kitties, with mackerel the bait of choice.

Report Date:

High winds and the water temp falling a few degrees made for tough fishing conditions this week, and most anglers went home with their tails between their legs. There has been a very early bass bite in Johnson's Bay; senkos and creature baits were picking off both small and largemouth bass. Trout were difficult to come by, but trolling 3 to 4 colors of lead core with Kastmasters and crawler/dodger combos in the main channel produced some......
