Mike Lackey bought his Vagabond home to Pt. Loma Sportfishing June 16 after a five-day trip with 23 anglers.

"The guys wanted to fish yellowtail," said Mike to dock reporter Bill Roecker, "so we went to Cedros Island and came away with near-limits of yellowtail. We released a lot of fish, too. We fished the bluefin at 240 or so twice; on the way down and on the way back. We got 82 nice ones. On the way back we had 60 in about three hours.

"It was a beautiful trip," continued Lackey. "We caught some albacore with the bluefin. The bluefin may sink out and the albacore come up. It wouldn't surprise me. We also got one nice halibut on this trip."

Daryl Smith of San Diego won first place for a 64-pound bluefin He said he got it wihth a sardine on a 4/0 Mustad hook. He used 40-pound P-Line, a Penn 400 S reel and a Fenwick seven-foot rod. He said the fish fought for a half-hour.

John Jordan of Anza won second place for a 60-pound bluefin. Nick VanderDussen of Fountain Valley won third place for a 52.6-pound bluefin that ate a mackerel. Gordon Nagy of Anza caught the lone halibut, a heft 28.7-pounder.
