Three good bluefin tuna swept the jackpots for the Excel trip that returned to Fisherman's Landing June 20 with skipper Mike Ramirez. There were also a few albacore in the catch. Most of the fish caught by the 31 anglers on the open-party trip were yellowtail and rockfish.

"Nice weather," observed skipper Ramirez.

James McCloud of LaVerne got the best bluefin, a 32.6-pounder. He said it fought hard for ten minutes after it took his sardine on a 4/0 ringed Mustad Demon circle hook. He used 40-pound Seaguar Premier fluorocarbon and 60-pound Line One spectra on an Accurate BX-2 500 reel and a Super Seeker 6470 rod.

RJ Sereni of Los Altos won second place for a 32-pounder, and Mike Okuma of Chula Vista won third place for a 31.3-pound bluefin tuna.

Seven-year-old Ben Geis of Incline Village, NV took a seat with the winners. His dad said Ben's favorite sport is fishing. He goes to Lake Tahoe School.
