Bruce Smith brought Shogun home after an eight-day Baja Dreamer trip to Alijos Rocks and Cedros Island June 9. He docked the rig at Fisherman's landing and then weighed the best fish for the jackpot.

Sean Brown of Bob Sands Tackle won first place, for a 99.6-pound tuna that took his blue and white Sumo 6 jig.

"He kicked my butt,"said Brown. "He too it on a fast wind about 15 feet behind the boat, and then peeled off about 200 yards of line, real quick."

Brown fished with 40-pound P-Line, a Trinidad 40 N reel and a custom Calstar 850 XLH by Bob Sands.

Dan Hyland of Millbrook won second place for a whopper mossback, a yellowtail of 67.6 pounds, best of the season so far.

"It seemed like it took six hours,"said Hyland, "but it was really only about 15 minutes of hard pulling."

Dan fished a mackerel on a 9/0 Mustad hook, on 100-pound line of unknown make, with a TLD 50 LRS reel and a five and a half-foot vintage Sabre rod.

Stacy Enns of Bakersfield won third place for a 59-pound yellowfin tuna, but she also caught a 44-pound yellowtail, so she posed with both fish in the lineup shot. The trip produced near-limits of yellowtail.
