The Crappie bite is finally going off, with quality fish to 3.5 lbs. being reported. The slabs are being caught all over the lake, but the best areas have been the back of Cachuma Bay, Jackrabbit Flats and Harvey's Bay. Mini-jigs tipped with crappie nibbles, red worms and meal worms have all been working.

Trout have gone a bit deeper now, and trolling lead core 3 to 5 colors with dodger/crawler combos or drifting worms near the dam has lead to some impressive catches of hold-over rainbows.

Bass fishing has been good at times and both largies and smallies are taking a variety of baits from top water to jigs, spinnerbaits to dropshot, etc. Jackrabbit Flats, the narrows and behind the Island have all been good locales.

Catfish have been biting as well in shallow coves and mackerel is key. Bow fishing for Carp in the narrows providing non-stop action and double digit numbers are easily acquired. Even the redear showed up this week, red worms and meal worms were the bait of choice but locations were not disclosed.

Report Date:

Trolling for trout has been on the slow side this week, with most anglers averaging 2 to 3 fish per boat. Lead core 3 to 4 colors used in combination with dodger/crawler rigs are producing the best. You can still get a bite in the Harveys area on inflated worms and PowerBait. But you need to use a light line and 5 to 6 foot leaders to be successful. The Bass bite is slow, but a few smallies and......
