Frank LoPreste docked his Royal Polaris at Fisherman's landing August 6 after the annual Queen of hearts seven-day trip with chartermaster Bob Ingles and 34 other anglers. They visited The Rocks and the Ridge among other spots.

"We caught yellowtail at the 23 Spot," said Ingles to dock reporter Bill Roecker, "and we got a wahoo in open water on a Halloween-colored marauder. Mike Lee of San Francisco got it out there a country mile."

Tom Patton of Montague won first place for a 99-pound tuna. He said it came to him after an hour-long battle with a couple of snafus. "I had a rusty roller, and that shredded my line," he recollected, "so every time I saw that bad spot I winced. He took me around the boat, and when he got close my reel handle broke. But I got him and he's my personal best tuna." He said he fished a sardine on a 3/0 ringed Owner Mutu hook on 40-pound Seaguar Premier fluorocarbon, 40-pound blue OP-Line on a TLD 20 reel and a Calstar 765 L rod.

Chartermaster Bob won second place for an 89-pound yellowfin, and Stan Speth of Redondo Beach won third place for a 61-poundalijos Rocks yellowfin tuna. The oldest and youngest angler on the boat posed for photos. Norm Moltar, a long-time regular, caught a 30-pound class yellowtail. Norm is 91 and lives in Marina del Rey. Garrett Weiss of Villa Park is 14 and goes to Servite High in Anaheim, where his favorite subject is science. He wants to be a veterinary.
