http://www.fishingvideos.comAfter visiting Alijos Rocks and The Ridge, Justin Fleck took Excel north to the area where bluefin have been biting over the last week, some 140 miles south of Pt. Loma. His 33 anglers on the annual Tuna Wars charter got over the century hump that day, scoring 115 bluefin to go with near-limits of yellowtail, some dorado, five dozen nice yellowfin tuna and three wahoo. Those Alijos tuna swept the jackpot.
At the Fisherman's Landing dock August 14, Fleck commented that the weather was beautiful and the fish bit everywhere they went.
Frank Griskus won first place for a 112.2-pound yellowfin tuna. He said it bit a double sardine rig under the kite, as he was winding it back in. He fished with an outfit belonging to the boat.
Bob "Dart" Fletcher, former SAC president, won second place for a 108.7-pound yellowfin, also taken with a "double trouble" kite rig. Rob Robinson of Colusa won third place for a 17.6-pound Alijos Rocks tuna that took a flylined sardine.
Kirk Mouser of Shafter got a huge nine-pound goldspotted sand bass while fishing a sardine on the bottom. The world record is 10.4 pounds.
