Mike Pritchard brought Intrepid home to her berth at Pt. Loma Sportfishing September 5 after an eight-day trip that visited the bluefin grounds, The Ridge, Alijos Rocks and offshore fishing on kelps. The Catchy Tackle trip had 26 anglers and was chartermastered by Wayne Martin. The catch had the sort of variety that only autumn trips can offer.

Martin said the hot jig was green. "You couldn't keep the yellowtail off the new guacamole Sea Strike 33's," he told dock reporter Bill Roecker. Harvey Rosen of Benicia won first place for a 49.8-pound bluefin tuna. He got it with a sardine on a 2/0 ringed Mutu Owner hook and 30-pound Seaguar Premier fluorocarbon. He used 60-pound Line One spectra on an Accurate 270 two-speed reel and a Calstar 700 M rod after a 15-minute scrap.

Keith Hughes of Riverside won second place for a 45.2-pound bluefin. Standing in with the winners was Josh White of San Jacinto, who had the trip's best bait or jig-caught wahoo, a 45-pound "skin."
