Andy Cates docked Red Rooster III at H&M Landing September 12 after an excellent four-day trip with 24 anglers and CharkBait owner Mark Smith aboard as chartermaster. "It was seven-day fishing on a four-day trip," remarked Cates on the dock. "It was almost too good. We had wide-open fishing on yellowfin and bluefin tuna offshore, excellent fishing for yellowtail at Cedros Island, and wide-open offshore again on the way back, ending up with near-limits around. And we had great weather."

Darren Sato of Irvine jigged up the winning yellowtail, a 31-pounder that struck his blue and white Salas 6X Jr. at the big island. He told dock reporter Bill Roecker he fished with 40-pound Izorline, 60-pound Izorline spectra on an Avet JX reel and a Calstar 610 rod.

John Antoline of Placentia won second place for a 26-pounder, and "Tutt" Tuttoilmondo of Lake Elsinore won third place for a 25.6-pound yellowtail.
