Joe Crisci took his 24 passengers on a seven-day trip that remained up on the north end of the Baja, because fishing was too good to go farther down. "We fished at Benitos, San Pablo, Hipolito and on offshore kelps," he told Roecker at Pt. Loma Sportfishing September 17.

Chartermaster Ken Mochizuki of Oxnard won first place, for a 42.6-pound dorado, likely the best one of the season to date. He said he hung it on a sardine and a Mustad 92677 offset hook tied to 50-pound Ande line and 65-pound Power Pro spectra on an Avet HX reel and a Calstar 6480 rod.

Kai Nagata of Arcadia won second place for a 31.8-pound yellowfin tuna, and James Briggs of Grants Pass was hot on his heels with a 31.6-pound tuna.
