Catfish still going strong, and several limits were reported last week. Mackerel has been the best offering, followed by packaged dough baits. The cats seem to be all over the lake, but Sweetwater Bay was hands down the most productive spot, with fish to 8 lbs. weighed in at the marina.

Bass fishing has been inconsistent, but the cooling temps brought the largies up tight to the shoreline cover in the early AM, and were later found suspended around the river channel and main lake points. Texas rigs, lipless crank, blades and drop shot rigs all worked for both species. Seasoned crappie anglers did well but were tight lipped about both baits and locations.

Bluegill are still in the very backs of coves in the tules, and can be taken with red worms, meal worms, and gulp maggots. Carp still haven't been showing much, and the same can be said about the trout. Look for plants to begin sometime next month.

Thunderstorms kept a lot of people off the lake this weekend, but fishing wasn't bad for those that stuck it out. Bass were caught all over the lake, and are down around 20 ft. Texas rigged plastics and jigs are getting most of the fish, as well as top water action early. Catfish are still being taken from shallow coves with creek channels, such as Cachuma, Santa Cruz and Harveys. Mackerel has been the bait of choice for the wiskerfish.......
