Mike Keating docked his Spirit of America at H&M Landing September 30 after a seven-day charter with Byron Reidenbaugh as chartermaster for 20 anglers.

Bob Gott of San Diego, a Spirit regular, won first place for a 56.25-pound white seabass. "I thought he was a black sea bass," said Bob to dock reporter Bill Roecker. "He came up and went outside." Bob took his giant white with a Sumo Jr. jig in glow paint, tied to 50-pounjd pink Ande line and 80-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon on an Avet JX reel and a 670 Seeker rod he wrapped himself.

First-timer Bill Orr of Newport Beach won second and third places for a 54-pound wahoo and a 53-pound white seabass. "My granddad taught me everything," commented Bill, who fished a sardine on the dropper loop for his big white.
