The offshore fishing for billfish this past week was much better than the week before and the sailfish and marlin were cooperating with the anglers and according to Captain Temo Verboonen, pretty eager to take the baits. Temo said there was lots of mackerel throughout the area now and the dorado and billfish are chasing the baits in every which direction. If the bait continues to hold in this area, the bite should just continue to increase as the days move by.

Unfortunately, however, the inshore fishing really tapered off this past week and the only available fish were the bonitos. The jack crevalle and Sierra, (Spanish mackerel) and roosterfish have all disappeared with the cold water currents. We also had a several rough ocean days this past week that made fishing close to the beach very difficult or impossible at times. Temo said it just wasn't the safe thing to do.

IZ Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days and nights with temps that ranged from 69 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Now, near perfect with calm weather, light surface breezes, almost no swell and very good offshore temps.

Best Fishing Area: All of the good billfish action and dorado action started at the 18-mile mark, straight out from Zihuatanejo Bay.

Best Lure/Bait: The rigged baits were working very well in the offshore waters and both sailfish and marlin were chasing the outrigger baits as well as the dorado.

Bait Supply: An excellent supply of both, baits for rigging and live bait. (Live bait is currently $5-7.00 per dozen, a real bargain)
