A considerably better fishing report for the past week that reflected the billfish have pretty much turned the corner and rounded Cabo San Lucas, heading into the Sea of Cortez, which is very typical for this time of year. With the water temps falling on the Pacific side of the peninsula and starting to warm on the Sea of Cortez side, it's a natural move for the billfish and we look for the dorado and yellowfin tuna to follow. While not many yellowfin tuna are being caught right now, the skipjack tuna have been the bigger fish and have probably averaged 12-15 lbs. or so with some bigger species nearing the 20 lb. mark. According to Roberto Marquez, owner of Fish Cabo Fleet, the skipjack tuna have been as big as many of the yellowfin tuna that were caught over the past couple of weeks. The overall combined fish counts for this past week for 31 days reflected 21 stripers, (19 released) 5 dorado, 25 skipjack tuna, 3 Mako sharks, 5 yellowtail and 41 Sierra.

Cabo Climate: A truly nice week in Cabo with a few passing clouds and lots of sunshine and temps that ranged from 62 nights to 87 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Overall, it's been a good week on the water with mostly light and variable surface breezes. Water temps on the Pacific side were in the 67-69 degree ranges with a defined temperature break at Palmilla Point and out to the southeast at 72-73 degrees and stretching on up to Los Frailes. All of the warm water area had excellent clarity while the cooler waters on the Pacific side remained off color green.

Best Fishing Area: The bulk of the billfish were being caught around the 1150 fathom spot and northerly from there to Destiladeras.

Best Bait/Lure: The billfish were responding well to the live bait drop back as well as live bait casted to sleepers and tailers.

Live Bait Supply: Remained good with both, caballitos and green mackerel.
