A bit of history, Spirit of America's 36th Birthday

"For those who like trivia," wrote former SOA skipper Dan Walsh, "today (June 26) is the 36th "birthday" of the M/V Spirit of Adventure. Her official unveiling to the public was held at Fisherman's Landing on June 26, 1976, and was quite a party with over 300 guests attending.

"Originally built as a luxury live-aboard scuba diving vessel that operated locally and in the State of Hawaii, she made a very successful transition into one of the fleet's finest long range fishing vessels by owner operator Mike Keating.

"It was boat number two coming out of the Poole Boat Company, following the Royal Polaris, as one of many long rangers that the Poole Company built."
