"We started this morning with a show on a little better size fish," recalled Red Rooster III skipper Andy Cates July 13, "50 to 75-pound Bluefin blowing out around the boat. After the smoke settled we landed a dozen fish and were very happy to have a Jack Pot showcase. Throughout the day we stopped on various schools but they were few and far between. Definitely scratch fishing ending with a little more than 70 BFT and a few decent size yellowfin to go with. We got some great pictures of some of the guys and their Bluefin Tuna. We are going to stay down here and hope to get on a few better size fish in the morning and then head home."

Today we spent the day fishing for coastal species and checked out the rugged shorelines. The weather was good and the bass made a couple of very good showings in a couple of different areas. Swimbaits, surface iron and live bait were all getting bit well. The quality of calico was outstanding with most from two to five pounds and a few bigger all the way up to an honest eight pounds. I'm sending two pictures today. First is Tony Garza, pictured above of Soft Steel monofilament, with a five pounder taken on the surface iron.
