The dorado bite continues to lead the fishing action for Mazatlan and during the past week, the yellowfin tuna made a good showing for a few of the boats. The billfish are still lagging for this time of year, especially since the water temps and conditions are near perfect, not to mention, the feed biomass, (dorado and yellowfin tuna for the blacks & blues) is on location. The offshore fishing for this past week for a total of 13 days fished reflected 1 sailfish released, 35 yellowfin tuna, (mostly school sized fish in the 10-25 lb. ranges) and 50 dorado that ranged from about 10 lbs. to 40 lbs. The inshore super pangas reporting in for 4 days fished reflected limits of dorado for each boat and each day with lots of fish being released by some of the boats.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy days with a slight chance for a thunder shower in the evenings and light and variable surface breezes at 5-10 mph.

Sea Conditions: Just incredible! Excellent all over with blue water starting at about 10 miles offshore and stable sea temps at 87-89 degrees out to about 30 miles or so & then falling a couple degrees to about 85. Warmest water is inshore along the beaches.

Best Fishing Area: The Yellowfin tuna were running with the porpoise at about 22 miles. The dorado continue to be embedded at the buoys but the bigger dorado are offshore stragglers.

Best Bait/Lure: The single sailfish was taken on a fresh rigged trolled bait. The yellowfin were primarily taken on the feathers, cedar plugs and deep diving lures, (Rapala types). Dorado remain pretty eager on most of the bait/lure combinations.

Bait Supply: Remains very good for Mazatlan with an excellent fresh rigging bait supply and a good live bait supply.
