The second trip of the year aboard the ALOHA SPIRIT out of CHANNEL ISLANDS SPORTFISHING had 21 anglers ready to do battle with White Seabass and Halibut. Capt Shawn gave us a safety talk and said we would be headed to Santa Cruz and look for some exotics and then do some rockfishing to fill the bags. Our bait tanks were loaded with squid and we were on our way, the ride out was one of the smoothest I have experianced in a long time. We arrived in the right area and were soon soaking baits, as luck would have it the exotics were not in the mood to bite and we only managed one school size White Seabass. It was not from a lack of trying and looking for them, but after a while it was time to give up the hunt and fall back on rockfishing. It didn\'t take long to start brining some nice quality reds, chuckles and lings on board. As the day was winding down, Capt Shawn said we would make one more stop on a rock which usually held some good quality reds. What a stop it was, as soon as people hit the bottom they were bit, I saw the largest red caught by Kirsten Jacobson coming in at 10.2 lbs. I was lucky enough to hook into the biggest ling I have caught in a long time, coming in and 17.5 lbs and taking the jackpot. All in all it was a great day on the water with an awesome crew and some new and old friends. To get in on one the trips call the landing at 805-382-1612 and get on the water soon.
