Report Date:
http://www.cortezcharters.comThe fishing picked up a little bit of steam this past week and there were a few more charters than in the past two weeks, allowing for an expansion to the fish counts. We reflect a total of 17 days fished that resulted in a 12 fish species, (including a couple of new that I am still trying to find out what they are). Oddly, Dorado were the fish of the week and closely followed by grouper, (surface & bottom fish) and the counts reflected 20 dorado, 2 blackfin tuna, 10 giant Atlantic barracuda, 14 bonito, 1 wahoo, 8 amberjack, 5 triggerfish, 6 banana fish, 5 snappers, 10 strawberry fish and 1 porky fish.
PM Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps that ranged from 72 nights to 90 daytime highs and very light surface breezes.
Sea Conditions: Overall, a very good week with 5-10 mph surface breezes and virtually no swell. Good sea temps that continue to be stable at 86 degrees throughout the area.
Best Bait: The readily available ballyhoo continues to be the bait of choice for all of the skippers in this area.
Bait Supply: Caught fresh on a daily basis and supplied to all of the sportfishing fleet.
