Owner-operator Mike Keating brought his Spirit of Adventure home from an eight-day Rice Bowl charter trip with 18 anglers aboard, including chartermaster Fred Morioka. Keating docked the boat at H&M Landing October 23. Jerry Aguiar of Garden Grove won first place for a 39.9-pound yellowfin tuna. He told dock reporter Bill Roecker it bit on a sardine and a 4/0 ringed Owner Super Mutu hook tied to 40-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon. He said he used 40-pound P-Line and 65-pound Power Pro spectra on an Avet HX narrow reel.

There were only two spots in the jackpot. Second place was won by Jon Spacher of Alta Loma, for a 34-pound yellowtail.
