Trout fishing was "off the hook" this week at Lake Cachuma

The last few days of this past week have produced the best trout bite of the season, in terms of both numbers and size. We have seen fish up to 7 lbs. and many in the 4 to 6 lb. range. This wide open action is the direct result of Thursdays 4,000 lb. plant from Calaveras Trout Farm. This load of 'bows bite from the get go. They didn't care when it came to lure or bait choice. They gobbled up anything that was presented to them. A few of the trollers that worked Santa Cruz Bay were rewarded with some crappie to add to their already fat stringer of rainbows.

The bass bite remains on the tough side with very few limits being reported. The few largies that were reported came on jigs, drop shots and an occasional swimbait fish. Carp seem to have retreated to deeper water which has put bowfishing on hold for the moment. Catfish and all other species were absent from the count.
