The Catfish Opener this past weekend was a huge success.

CATFISH:
2,000 lbs. of Catfish was split into lakes 3 and 4 making for some great fishing. Limits were taken out of both lakes.

Bryce Lund caught 4 Catfish out of lake 4 on shrimp including the largest of the weekend at 4 lbs. 15 oz. Bryce wins an IPod Touch!

Andrew Forrester, pictured above and his father reeled in 8 Catfish out of lake 4 on mealworms. Total weight 18 lbs.

JP Masson caught a stringer full of Catfish with a total weight of 14 lbs. 2 oz. All came out of lake 4 on nightcrawlers.

CJ Moir age 10 caught a 3 lb. 9 oz. Catfish out of lake 3 on mackerel.

Sean Mayes caught a tagged 3 lb. Catfish from lake 4 using mackerel. Sean won a mini fighter pole holder.

Brooklynn and Rayven Greer, Photo #1 caught a couple of Catfish from lake 4 on nightcrawlers and catfish bait. The largest weighed 3 lbs. and another was tagged and worth a free rod and reel combo.

Naa Saliaphiw caught 4 Catfish out of lake 4 using mealworms and mackerel. Largest weighed 3 lbs. One was tagged and Naa won a rod and reel combo.

Joe Gregory caught a nice 2 lb. 12 oz. Catfish out of lake 3 on mackerel. This fish was also tagged and worth 2 adult and 2 Jr. fishing permits.

Andrew Lane caught a 2 lb. 9 oz. Catfish from lake 3 on shrimp.

Gavin Pankau, Photo #2 caught a tagged 2 lb. 5 oz. Catfish from lake 4 using mealworms. Gavin age 6 won a 2 night camping trip.

Lilya Gove-Purtteman, Photo #3 age 5 caught a tagged Catfish out of lake 4 on powerbait and won a tackle box.

Leonard Autterson caught a tagged Catfish out of lake 3 on nightcrawlers. Leonard won 2 adult and 2 Jr. fishing permits.

Brendan Klima age 11 caught the first tagged fish on Saturday and won a Diawa rod and reel combo. This fish came out of lake 4 on a nightcrawler.

Next stock will arrive sometime this Friday, April 12th.

Recipe of the Week:
Southern Fried Catfish

Ingredients
• 8 (5 to 6-ounce Catfish fillets, skin removed
• Salt
• Crab boil seasoning (recommended: Old Bay)
• 4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 cup cornmeal
• Oil, for frying

Directions
Heat a fryer or a deep pot halfway filled with oil to 350 degrees F. Sprinkle both sides of each catfish with salt and crab boil seasoning. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and the cornmeal. Dredge the catfish in the flour mixture and place in fryer. Deep fry for approximately 7 to 8 minutes until done. Drain on paper towels.

** No California State Fishing License required to fish at Padre Dam's Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve.

Fishing Permit Fees
Adult (ages 16 and over) $9.00 per day
Junior (ages 7 to 15) $6.00 per day
Second fishing pole stamp $4.00
*One child under 7 may fish for free with a paid adult
