NDOW Sponsors Kid's Carp Derby

The entire family can hook a good time at the Kid's Carp Derby on June 1, from 8 a.m. to noon at Lahontan Reservoir. The Nevada Department of Wildlife is sponsoring the derby, and staff and volunteers will be available to teach the little ones how to drop a line.

Prizes will be awarded for the largest carp caught by children in different age categories. The Kid's Carp Derby is designed for children and is free to all participants, however a fishing license is required for those kids 12 years of age and older. Additional sponsors of the event include Scheels, Cabela's and Sportsman's Warehouse.

WHAT: Kid's Carp Derby
WHEN: Saturday, June 1, 2013, 8 a.m. - noon.
WHERE: Meeting place will be at Beach 1 day use area on the Fallon side of Lahontan Reservoir.
SIGN-UPS: Registration is required.

AGES: Minimum 3 years of age. A parent or guardian must accompany all children under 16.

BRING: Participants are requested to provide their own tackle. A limited number of rods are available for use by those who do not have their own fishing equipment. Note: A fishing license is required for those 12 years of age and older.
