Use of Rockfish Descending Devices as determined by the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife

OR Department of Fish & Wildlife Staff

Report Date:

http://www.dfw.state.or.us

If you are fishing deeper than 60' (10 fathoms) and release a rockfish, please use a descending (or recompression) device to release the fish at least 66' below the surface. Because survival rates are much greater for rockfish released with descending devices than for those thrown overboard, anglers can help overfished rockfish populations recover faster and also potentially increase their fishing opportunities (fewer of the fish count toward bycatch quotas).
