http://www.fishingvideos.com"We had a variety of all species," said Red Rooster III skipper Andy Cates at H&M Landing July 16. He had just docked after a four-day trip with 24 anglers.
"We scratched out a nice day yesterday," Cates wrote July 15, "with 100 mixed tuna; Albacore and yellowfin, Also 10 dorado and a few yellows to go with them. Jackpots were settled with a couple of stops on 35 to 50-pound tuna, which gave guys a chance at a trophy.
"The albacore are good size but most of the yellowfin are smaller grade. There were some chances at better grade yellowfin ending the day with a dozen of those 35to 50 pound fish."
The angler with the best fish was Paul Dewar of Bonita, who won first place for a 51.7-pound yellowfin.
"It felt like two hours," said Paul, "but I got him in 20 minutes."
He said he fooled the fish with a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad hook, 30-pound P-Line on a Trinidad 30 reel and a Penn seven-foot rod.
Scott McDonald of Fullerton won second place for a 50.4-pounder, and Dindo Dimzon of Henderson, NV won third place and the trolling jackpot, for tuna of 50 and 47 pounds.
