Norm Kagawa brought his Shogun home to Fisherman's Landing after a five-day Izorline trip with 29 passengers. Norm said the yellowtail fishing at Cedros Island was very good, with some anglers taking their forkies on iron jigs, light and heavy.

"The day started off with an omen," wrote Ethan Waldvogel for the boat August 14. "The very first tuna that came up was shark bit and that set the tone for the day. Tuna were a slow pick for our anglers and then the great whites picking off a few of the finicky yellowfin just made today a little frustrating for myself at least.

"There were fish that made it to the boat despite the shark's best efforts. The grade of the yellowfin has been very nice with many in the 50-pound range with some over the century mark. In our fish hold we have a wahoo caught by lucky angler Mike Casey. Guadalupe is the in the northern most range of the wahoo and they are rare for this place, but not unheard of. Tonight the bow is pointed to waters offshore."

At the dock August 16, Mike Casey displayed both his wahoo, the first of the season to come on mono and bait, and the winning tuna, a 105-pounder. He got both fish on the same rig, he said: a sardine on a 1/0 Mutu ringed hook, with 40-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader and 60-pound Line One Spectra backing on an Avet LX reel and a GRUSA six and a half-foot rod. He received the Izorline trophy from rep Mike Riley.

Jeff Bochesay was second, and posed with his 87-pound tuna. Bryan Cortez of Downey won third place, but his fish wasn't available for photos.
