http://www.fishingvideos.comShogun's annual trip with David Choate, also known as "Wahoo Dad," returned from five days at sea July 29. Norm Kagawa was skipper. He said his anglers had about two-thirds limits of yellowtail, a couple of halibut and a dozen dorado.
Derek Appelblatt of Sacramento won first place for a 38.6-pound yellowtail. He gave his fish to the processors, so it wasn't available for a photo. He said he got it with a blue and white Salas 6X jig, tied to 30-pound line, with a Calcutta 700 reel and a Seeker Balck Steel 6465 rod.
Leonard Thorpe of Torrance sent a sardine to the bottom with an eight-ounce sinker on the dropper loop, and was rewarded with a 38-pound halibut that won second place. He put his bait on a 3/0 Super Mutu hook on 40-pound blue Izorline, and used a Pro Gear reel (he didn't know the model) and a Sabre six-foot rod.
John Gray of Huntington Beach was third, for a 33.8-pound yellowtail.
