SFR recently teamed up with Captain Steve Kelly aboard the Island Tak for a full day fishing trip out of CISCOs landing in Oxnard. With a group of big game anglers aboard we decided to go for the game fish or go home empty as rock fishing would not be in the plans for this trip. We started the trip out by jigging up some squid for bait and with everyone on board helping out it wasn't long before the tanks were filled up with fresh squirters. Captain Kelly maneuvered the Tak around until he saw some conditions he liked and it was time to soak some baits. A couple of moves later found us on a school of yellows and were we able to hook and land a nice channel island yellowtail. We stuck to the plan and were able to land two more yellows before heading into the shallows for some calico bass fishing. The fish were biting and we managed to land numerous quality calicos, with several pushing 4-5 lbs. We gave it a couple more shots at the yellows before calling it a day and heading for the harbor. Water conditions are still good and Captain Kelly will continue to aggressively fish the channel islands waters in search of game fish. Call CISCOs landing at 1 805-382-1612 or check CISCOs website to arrange a charter for your fishing group. donpadick@hotmail.com for any pictures.
